About 2 weeks ago two men used a sledgehammer to knock a lockbox meant for emergency elevator issues off of the brick wall at Tavona condos. They also tried to get the city fire Knox box off but were unsuccessful. There was a fob inside the box they removed and they used it to enter the building several times and steal five bicycles before we realized it was missing and disabled the fob. Fast forward to Friday, February 18th, around 3:30 p.m. one of the same men entered the garage at Regata by running in after a vehicle. The resident questioned the man and asked him if he had a fob and he flashed the key ring and walked off. The maintenance man happened to see this and followed him up the stairwell where he was trying to get in a door where our mail room is. The maintenance man questioned him and asked him what he was doing, he said he was there to visit someone and had a fob and proceeded to show him the stolen fob from the elevator lock box that was knocked off Tavona. I heard them yelling and called police and he tried to keep him in the stairwell until police could arrive but he ended up shoving past him and running off on foot. He was carrying around a flat screen monitor at the time. He was white, 25 to 30 years old, dark hair, wearing mostly black clothing, white sneakers, a black backpack with white stripes and a hunting cap with ear flaps.
